Our Story
-
Norton & Hodges was born from a journey of discovery.
While on her honeymoon in Africa, founder Suzette Bussey encountered more than breathtaking views—she found purpose. Inspired by the richness of African culture, craftsmanship, and community. Suzette returned home to Charleston with a vision: to design accessories that honor heritage, empower women, and embody quiet luxury.
What began as a single idea has grown into a brand that bridges continents, traditions, and generations through intentional design.
In a world of fast fashion and mass production, there’s a growing need for fashion that respects people, places, and the planet. Consumers are seeking products that are not only beautiful, but meaningful—crafted with integrity, and made to last. Artisans across Africa are rich in talent, yet often lack access to global markets or fair economic opportunity. And many luxury brands still overlook sustainable practices.
There’s a need for a different kind of luxury: one that values craftsmanship, community, and conscious creation.
Norton & Hodges offers intentionally designed accessories made by skilled artisans—primarily women—using ethically sourced, traceable materials. From bold cowry-shell jewelry to heirloom-quality handbags crafted from Nile Crocodile, each piece reflects a commitment to heritage and sustainability.
Our small-batch production process ensures quality, reduces waste, and allows us to support long-term partnerships with makers. Through every product, we aim to tell a deeper story—one of empowerment, craftsmanship, and quiet confidence.
At Norton & Hodges, we don’t just make accessories—we build legacies, honor tradition, and celebrate the extraordinary.
