Hair on Hide and Leather

Hair on hide and leather are beautiful natural materials. Prolonged distressing or friction at a certain site may cause the hair to wear off.  Please follow these steps to best care for your item.

Please keep your bag out of direct sunlight and away from heat whenever possible. Overexposure to light can stain or alter the color of the leather. Exposure to heat may dry out the skins and cause peeling or cracking.

Avoid getting your bag wet. If your bag does get wet, allow it to dry naturally. Do not try to use a blow drier or other heat source to dry out your bag if it gets wet.

You may use a soft, clean cloth made of microfiber or cotton to gently wipe down the leather. Always wipe in the direction of the hair or scales. Never rub your bag against the grain.

Avoid exposure to perfume sprays and lotions. These may cause discoloration or drying of the hide or leather.

Keep your bag in a cool, dark place when not in use.

Natural leather cream can be used to restore leather oils however some creams may darken the color of the leather.

The hair may become dry and will need to be conditioned over time. To condition, use a clean cloth and wet it with a natural, leave-in hair conditioners (without chemicals). Wipe in the direction of the hair and let air dry.

Storage Tips

When not in use, crocodile leather items such as boots or shoes should be kept in a cool, dry environment. One example of an appropriate place to store crocodile leather boots would be in a shoe closet.

Do not fold any alligator or crocodile item tightly.  Instead put them in a small drawer or hang them from a hanger.

Cleaning Tips

Alligator and crocodile leather is durable and beautiful but please avoid soaking the leather or getting it excessively wet.  Too much moisture can actually cause damage to the finish of the leather. If it does get wet, promptly wipe off the moisture with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use direct sunlight to dry it out.

After it is dry, apply leather conditioner formulated just for alligator and crocodile leather to help protect the finish and keep it looking new. When applying the crocodile leather conditioner, be sure to follow the application instructions on the conditioner’s packaging.
